Flutters down from the sphinx’s shoulder

Of an imminent coming disaster

And the birth of a new blue moon
And the end of a another era
Aeon, era, epoch, age
Binocular blink of the strigine sage

The gaudiest marquees are raised up on their poles
The circus of Atonement appears - behold
Humanity’s survivors are allocated roles

In Scarlett jackets, tasselled coats
And hazy shades of fabric
Lurching lustful, spilling wine
Scoffing Lark’s Tongues in Aspic
They cavort beneath his shadow
Trying to get their lord’s attention
Dying to be the one who shines
Hoping for a mention
They picture themselves at his side
His altar dashed with crimson
But he just flutters off
And another era finds redemption.
